Essential Healthy Snacks For Your Next Road Trip

The Best Healthy Snacks For A Road Trip

Long road trips, love them or hate them, there’s one thing that’s certain to make them enjoyable, that’s snacks - and lots of ‘em!

Whilst chocolate bars and crisps taste great, they aren’t so good for our general health and keeping our bodies fuelled up in the best way.

That’s why we’ve generated this list of the best three healthy snacks (with a special bonus product at the end) to take with you on your next journey. We’ve teamed up with fellow midlands based company Protein Package to curate this tasty top three.

UFIT Protein Cruncher Crisps

Being one of the UK’s most popular snacks consumed, bags of crisps are often ‘packed’ with salt, saturates and most of the time are very calorie-dense - but not the ones made by UFIT.

UFIT’s Crunchers are reasonably priced at £0.99 per packet with most protein bars being around £2.29. Coming in three tasty flavours: BBQ, Sweet Chilli and Sea Salt Vinegar, there’s sure to be one that your taste buds will love. They were released a year ago after the huge success of the UFIT Protein Shake range and customers just can’t get enough of them.

With 70% less fat, just 100 calories and over 10-grams of protein (half a chicken breast) in every bag, you’re guaranteed to have a ‘pop-tastic’ experience with these healthy popped crisps.

Also suitable for vegans, almost everyone can now get a crunch with a protein punch. Just don’t be the one to drop them down the side of the car seat (we’ve all done it).

The Skinny Food Co. Skinny Cookies

If you don’t initially think of crisps when it comes to snacking, another ‘C’ many people love devouring is cookies. Produced by the Skinny Food Co. which has a goal of making healthy eating ‘easy-peasy’, their new low-calorie cookies are the best thing since sliced bread (not joking).

Certified by Sugar Wise that ensures there are no added sugars; if you were to eat the whole pack in one go (it is hard to resist) you'd consume absolutely no sugar. It’s pretty hard to argue with that, low-calorie cookies that have no sugar - what more could you ask for?

Skinny Food Cookies are £1.79 per pack of nine cookies, you can pick from Chocolate Chip, Peanut Butter or Coconut.

Barebells Protein Bars

The final ‘snack’ on the list is a chocolate-inspired product - the Barebells Protein Bar. Made in Scandinavia and taking after the likes of protein bar market leaders, Grenade, you’re guaranteed to get a taste experience like no other.

Eloquently covered on their website, Barebells strive to offer ‘healthy living and happy eating’ and is ‘always learning and improving because, after all, that’s what contributes to a healthy and happy lifestyle’.

Each Barebells 60-gram bar is also free from sugars but on top of that, offers 20-grams of whey protein to help aid with muscle growth and recovery. One widely unknown fact about increasing your protein intake is that it makes you feel fuller, most people think it’s carbohydrates that do that - but it’s actually protein. Therefore, if you’re looking to generally feel fuller and want just one thing to take on a road trip, you’re probably best opting for a protein bar over the other snacks on this list.

Energy Drinks - Bonus Product

Now, we know this is a ‘snack’ list, so we understand that’s a bit strange to have energy drinks here but we couldn’t not give them a mention.

They’re not any old energy drinks though, we’re talking about the zero sugar and low-calorie ones from the likes of Bang Energy, Monster and Reign.

Packed with b-vitamins, amino acids and caffeine, they’re sure to keep you alert and ready to take on the day when you arrive at your final destination.

As a little side note, if you’re the driver and not a passenger, whilst it might be convenient please don’t rely on energy drinks if you’re feeling a little tired - take a quick break and then get back on track once you’re refreshed.

The final mile

These ‘healthier for you’ products will not only help keep your body in tip-top shape and improve the road trip experience but potentially assist with your driving. We don’t feel we can finish up without giving an honourable mention to The Curators who turn all kinds of our favourite pub snacks into healthier options. From pork scratchings to beef jerky and even nut mixes - they’ve got you covered.

It’s well researched that poor diet and deficiencies can reduce reaction speeds and cognitive abilities so it’s always a great idea to ensure you’re providing your body with everything it needs and in the right quantities.
