The propshaft bearing, commonly referred to as the propshaft centre support bearing, plays a key role in maintaining drivetrain stability on your Chevrolet Captiva. It supports and aligns the propshaft, allowing torque to be transferred smoothly from the gearbox to the differential while controlling vibration and rotational movement.
On vehicles with a multi-piece driveshaft, the centre support bearing connects the two sections of the propshaft, also known as the propeller shaft, cardan shaft, or prop shaft. The bearing is housed within a metal bracket and cushioned by a rubber mount, which absorbs drivetrain movement and reduces vibration during acceleration and cruising. This assembly is securely mounted to the underside of the vehicle chassis to maintain correct shaft alignment.
As mileage increases, the rubber support within the bearing can deteriorate due to constant load, rotational forces, and environmental exposure. When this happens, the propshaft may no longer remain balanced during operation. Common symptoms of a worn propshaft bearing include vibration through the vehicle floor, shaking during acceleration, drivetrain noise, and an overall reduction in driving comfort.
If left unresolved, a failing centre support bearing can place additional stress on the propshaft, universal joints, and differential components. Replacing the propshaft bearing on your Chevrolet Captiva (2006, 2007, 2008, 2009, 2010, 2011, 2012, 2013, 2014, 2015, 2016) helps restore drivetrain balance, smooth power delivery, and correct shaft positioning.
This replacement propshaft bearing is manufactured to match OEM dimensions and mounting specifications. The correct O.E Number (20781756) is listed in the product specification to ensure compatibility with your vehicleβs original drivetrain configuration. Any additional fitment or installation notes are provided where applicable ().
Correct fitment is critical for drivetrain components. The centre support bearing must align precisely to prevent premature wear, vibration, or driveline imbalance once installed.
