What Does the Nissan Navara Driveshaft Do?
The driveshaft is also known as a cardan shaft or prop shaft. It is typically a hollow tube made from steel or aluminium, designed to transmit torque from the engine to the wheels. The driveshaft extends from the transmission to the rear axle, delivering power to drive and control the vehicle.
Constant Velocity (CV) driveshafts are a specific type of driveshaft designed to maintain a constant rotational speed through an angle without a significant increase in friction or play. This allows smooth power delivery while the suspension and steering move.
A broken driveshaft can prevent the wheels from turning correctly, severely affecting control of the vehicle. This issue should be addressed as soon as possible for the safety of you and your passengers.
Vibrations coming from underneath the vehicle can indicate a problem with the driveshaft. Shuddering or vibration during acceleration is also a common symptom of driveshaft-related issues.
Driveshafts are a critical component of the drivetrain, and any fault can directly impact the vehicle’s ability to operate safely and smoothly. Each driveshaft is finely balanced before installation to prevent vibration, so any noticeable vibration usually indicates a fault.
