What does the Propshaft do?
The full name is "Propshaft centre support bearing mount" and it connects the two parts of the driveshaft which is also referred to as the Cardan Shaft, Propeller Shaft or even Prop Shaft.
It is a “U” shaped bracket made from metal with a solid rubber bearing located inside.
It is designed to hold both parts sides of the driveshaft together, reduce any vibrations when your car accelerates and ultimately protect your cars driveshaft. The centre support is securely attached to the bottom of your frame.
Signs of a defective mount can be vibrations that shake the car, the propshaft will become unbalanced and the car will be very uncomfortable to travel in.
Wear and tear can result in the bearing becoming worn and defective so the worn rubber will split and break up and will stop the centre support bearing functioning as it should.
